If you want success and happiness, never underestimate the importance of self esteem!



importance of self esteem Many psychiatrists, life coaches and successful individuals have always emphasized the importance of self esteem. This does not come as a surprise at all.

Self esteem is so important because it practically affects all facets of one's life. From health to career to success to relationships to love.

Self esteem can make all the difference between success and failure, victory and defeat, happiness and sadness, excitement and depression, inner peace and turmoil, life and death (figuratively speaking of course).

To have self esteem issues means not being at peace with oneself. The existence of this incongruency and inner turmoil can have a very significant negative impact on a person.

A so called 'average' individual with high self esteem will outshine someone who has much more education / skills / experience but with low self esteem. All those extra knowledge and years of experience will not count for much if that person does not believe in himself. Even though he has the ability to impress and perform, he will unconsciously hold himself back because of his self doubt and lack of self acceptance.



Below is a list of the most common effects that a person suffering from low esteem will experience;

1. Not reaching his or her potential - A person with low self esteem would hold himself back from achieving the successes that he desires. The lack of confidence and belief in his abilities would drive him to recoil and not even make an attempt. He will be more likely to just accept his current life situation and not do anything to change it.



importance of self esteem 2. Deteriorating health - Poor self esteem will also affect a person's health and daily habits. For example, the appetite will be affected, either making a person not have appetite and becoming under nourished, or giving the opposite effect resulting in overeating habits.

Low self esteem also affects bad habits such as adopting the wrong postures when standing, sitting and walking; having unhealthy breathing patterns (breathing shallowly and not taking in enough oxygen); and developing an overly negative mindset resulting in the manifestation of diseases.



3. Relationships with others - A person with low self esteem will always be comparing himself or herself with others, and almost always ending up feeling inferior. This would seed the feelings of jealousy towards the other person, or the perception of inferiority and unworthiness in the relationship. Both of this would end up negatively affecting the relationships we have with others.

And unhealthy relationships with the people around us can be the source of a lot of pain and unhappiness, and it makes it more difficult for us to achieve our goals.



4. Happiness and peace - Low self esteem would almost guarantee that one does not experience happiness and peace in their life due to the poor self image that they have and the lack of self-acceptance and self-love. How can someone feeling miserable and believing in his or her unworthiness experience happiness or peace?






Not acknowledging the importance of self esteem is akin to not appreciating life. If we are not careful and let our self esteem esteem issues develop unchecked, it can comprehensively ruin one's life. The deeper you fall into this downward spiral, the harder it is to get out.

So constantly make sure that you have a healthy self esteem.
